S&S Trail Services were invited by the Deep East Texas- Routes and Trails Access Coalition to design trail in Cassels-Boykin Park in Angelina County. The park sits on ACoE Property bordering Lake Sam Rayburn. There are sections that have great topography. There are also sections that are almost flat. Planning a fun trail through some areas proved to be a challenge.
Other areas of the property are set aside for Red Cockaded Woodpecker habitat and had a set of restrictions about access that we needed to fit into our overall plan. There was even a cemetery from the late 1800′s that we needed to give a wide berth to.
S&S Trails spent one evening meeting with DET-TRAC in an effort to brainstorm about funding options for the trail. With the Rec. Trails program in jeopardy, DET-TRAC is being forward thinking and trying to fund their project through private sources and sales.
