Hunstville State Park

Brrr. That about sums up the week we spent in Huntsville State Park in early February.

The S & S Trail Services crew worked along the Triple C Trail in Huntsville State Park improving drainage on a section of trail that hadn’t seen maintenance in quite some time. The improvements included building rolling grade dips and knicks to get water off the trail. In some areas the ditch that was originally built by the CCC was reconstructed, to allow water to flow down the hill where it was intended. Also, some rehabilitation was done, using spoils to rebuild the grade of the land back up to the level it had started at. After completing the previously agreed upon tasks, S&S assisted in completing the decking of a new boardwalk in the park.

. Note the ramp that Susan is dumping dirt onto to make the water leave the trail tread.

All of this, and it only hit about freezing once all week. We actually sat Wednesday out because of an ice storm. The next day we had to disassemble the ignition of Sam, the Ditch Witch, heat it up in the exhaust of the 4-wheeler and reassemble it to start the machine. All in a days work!
